Acceptance
God does not judge by our dress or skin,
but discerns the heart -- does it harbor sin?
God will not tolerate our sin and shame,
but loves all sinners Christ bears our blame.
Praise be the glory to stem the flood,
providing redemption by Jesus' shed blood.
Through grace and mercy God gave us his Son,
be accepted in Jesus The beloved one.

A Day
to Remember
Friends were there from far and near,
Friends are folks that we hold dear.
In worship we did blend as one
As God provided in His Son.
The Holy Spirit moved and then --
His charge came from Godly men.
To Pastor Lu -- you know the need,
To tend the flock, uproot the weed.
To God's people we beseech,
Put to practice the word we preach.
All that day we did raise
With joyful hearts, songs of praise.
Time stood still -- it was your day,
the love of God was on display.
Oh! the joy of God-given friends,
Through Jesus Christ it never ends.
Written to commemorate the Installation
Service of Pastor Lucious Fullwood on
June 15, 1980 at St Francis Baptist Temple
St Joseph , Mo.

Alpha
and Omega
In the beginning we are told
of a savior coming to earth.
From the Gospels, the good news
the story of Jesus birth.
Our Savior died on Calvary
at the hands of ungodly men.
But the tomb could not hold
our eternal Lord --
Jesus is coming again.

Balm of
Love
If our neighbor we could win
we must cease from serving sin.
Life is judged as daily seen,
our Lords command is to be clean.
If by chance we should live
in sin arrest God
says forgive.
When by grace we have grown
to love our neighbor as our own,
Through his love our neighbors see
a life that Jesus has set free.
A God-given gift from heaven above,
a perfect triangle love, love, love.

Beyond
Tomorrow
Why do I fail - so seldom see
the vision of love that I lack?
It's easy to see things dear to me
the years are so clear looking back.
Time slips by of fleeting wings
while I strive to cope with today,
then my heart sings with joy it brings
when I live to let God have his way.
Burdens no more of strain or strife
I rejoice to lay away my sorrow,
and live my life in Jesus Christ
today and beyond tomorrow.

Christmas
Seen
Why is this day called Christmas?
Is it better than the rest?
It's a day of hope eternal
not just better, but the best.
It's the day of his fulfillment
of that promise long ago,
not only would we see him,
but this Jesus we should know.
Who can understand the meaning
of his birth in low estate?
Those who seek to find and trust Him
trusting Him not trusting fate.
In Bethlehem - a manger,
a well known Christmas scene,
to see, want and know Him
takes a love - His love supreme.
His birth is God's purpose
to break the strength of sin.
I've known Christmas from without
Christmas now I know within.
His birth gives us a new hope
from our worldly ways to wean,
to know His will, His way, His Word,
through eyes of faith is Christmas seen.

Doubt
My thoughts drift back to yesteryear
when two young lads to me were dear
Joyful days, the pride of life,
life so full, no thought of strife.
Then came that day we had to part
with loss of will, of hope, of heart.
No wound is ever slightly healed
it's served complete and quickly sealed.
God heals the wound we cannot close
and soothes in time the scar that grows
Thoughts within the heart concealed
as time moves on are then revealed
When sorrow fills you life with doubt
God - by grace - will cast it out.

God's Love
Born in a manger of holy birth,
adored by heaven, praised on earth.
In God's way He spent His youth
He knew the time to teach His truth.
God's Word of Truth did man offend,
Jesus betrayed by one called friend.
Envy filled those men with hate,
They twisted Truth to seat His fate,
and nailed Him to the tree--His cross,
darkened hearts ignored the loss.
In agony Christ did depart,
His mortal wound -- a broken heart.

His Beauty
The beauty of the sunset
dims when I compare,
the beauty of God's mercy
in His answer to my prayer.
The beauty of the heavens
its wondrous, starry skies,
cannot contain the beauty of
Christ's Word to make me wise.
The beauty of the rainbow
enchanting through the mist,
fades with the memory of
His quiet place -- our tryst.
The beauty of the firmament
the sky, the earth, the sea,
have not the deep contentment
the love of Jesus hold for me.

John 3: 16
Arise, shine, let your light be bright,
arise, shine, dispel the night.
As the light shown round the shepherds then,
let God's holy light shine forth again.
Wise men coming from afar,
seeking the King beneath the star.
Your light gives a single glow,
together we let this dark world know
that God's light shining from within
repels all darkness and all sin.
Jesus came this special day
with love to take our sin away.

Living
Within
Much greater could oppression be
in this my own Gethsemane.
Iron bars are strong, stone walls are high,
but they have no strength the day I die.
Sorrow on sorrow will surely bring
a time when death shall lose its sting.
I can't turn back, looking forward I grope,
slowly but surely comes lose of hope.
Where shall I turn in the hour of need?
Man's ways are filled with selfish greed.
When from life's load I need a rest
I ask my Jesus for His best.
He tells me that His word is life,
an inward peace, not outward strife.
Christ my Lord, the Truth, the Way,
my life now knows Resurrection Day.

Life's
Byway
Familiar friends cease to care
and jest at heartaches I must bear,
though they never felt the sting
that this tragedy did bring.
Insisting that their ways were true
they gave me bondage as my due.
I watched them twist the truth about,
and felt the joy of life snuff out.
I reached the point of no return
as verbal barbs let loose the spurn.
Yet when I was lost for sure
God knew the depth I could endure,
and set His strength within my soul
then added zest to reach the goal.
The longing hope of God - given rest
is now fulfilled within my breast.

Lost
-- But Found
I love the earth, all worldly things.
I love all nature for the joy it brings.
But what are these when I compare
to the God who is , though I know not where?
We have the truth men will cry
though their truth fails to satisfy.
Then softly and clearly Jesus is heard,
I AM THE TRUTH, THE LIVING WORD

Triplet
It's just your picture
on a shelf in my room,
but it brightens my day
and chases the gloom.
I know those smiles
three of a kind,
with hearts light and gay
one always will find.
The two I remember
with long flaxen braids,
I knew them when --
now they are young maids,
There is one little bundle
with a bright shiny face
I have not, as yet seen
but I will by God's grace.

My Mother
When I recall my youthful days
some so clearly, some with haze,
sometimes lonely, sometime joy,
sometimes a girl, sometimes a boy.
Mom was ever on the run
for I remember twelve plus one.
We took her for granted one and all,
expecting her at our beck and call.
I've always wondered if Mom's joy
consisted of her girls and boys.
Times of rejoicing, times of strife,
times of sorrow, times of life,
life so short, but God did give
His only Son that we might live.

Jesus cares, and keeps His flock,
Shepherd, Savior and our Rock.
Growing daily by His grace
and His love our fears replace.
We're twice born -- our second birth
bestows on us our Master's worth.
Jesus calls -- He's calling you
to find the many or the few.
Though we search and find but one
who through the Word from sin is won,
the spirit of Truth will infuse
into that life the greatest new.
Enfolding fellowship divine
knowing Jesus -- He is mine,

Reflections
of a Lady
I see you in all walks of life
perhaps a widow, perhaps a wife.
Your simple beauty subdued today
in retrospect of yesterday,
when finding paths to rough to trod
you learned to live and trust in God.
A woman's life has filled with grace
etched not its cares upon your face,
in ways of life you have not grieved
giving more than you received.
You lived, you loved and life you gave,
God's Word of Truth to help engrave --
of creeping time you show no fears
you wear so well your later years.

Something
in Common
I found Him in His written word,
I went in swift pursuit,
My heart said, "Hurry! hurry!"
My mind was in in dispute.
Would Jesus take me to His side,
Or even be a friend?
Would He from His lofty place
Stoop -- or condescend?
While within I'm bursting
An inhibition dike,
God's will knits together
Heart-thoughts so alike.

The
Prodigal
I built my life without a care,
without a thought that others share.
Husks were gathered in delight
they seemed so pleasing to my sight.
I was youth, I built with zest,
believing I could choose the best.
I set to work without delay,
scoffed at those who stopped to pray.
When I found I'd built on sand
the day of reckoning was at hand.
Recalling then that I did mock
at those who said to build on Rock.
For the advice I had abhorred --
The Rock of Ages -- Christ our Lord.
In fear I cried to Him -- why God?
By grace I know him now -- my God.

This
Paradox
From birth at first we cry
we hurry toward the day we die.
Born in sin a constant flood
salvation came by Jesus shed blood.
We cannot call this world our home
to dwell within its catacomb.
We live in hope of Christ our Lord
His sacrifice is our reward.
When Jesus calls to take His own
death becomes a stepping stone.

To Be Free
Be free -- or you do not live,
live -- or you are not free,
flesh is but a prison
when we mock morality.
Who keeps God's law? -- only One,
some pretend to partake,
their one thought is to disguise
for their own law they make.
This is not new for long ago
it's what the Psalmist saw --
'With them have no fellowship
which frame mischief by law."
Their hands are unclean.
They live a life of ease.
Selfish thought is always this
-- the appetite to please.
From my youth I've known the goal
the one I want to be,
when in God's Word and way I live
my soul and flesh are free.

To
Heal Her Heartache
In solitude through lonely night
contemplating wrong from right,
your cold world of constant strife
yet within you love a life.
You stand alone, he does not care
about the heartache you must bear.
will no one in this weary land
offer you a helping hand?
who by your silent plea will sway
and stand beside you all the way?
I will come to take your part
listen while you bare your heart,
lay your head against my breast
to take yourself a moments rest.
We who sinned and went astray
can turn to Jesus - hear Him say -
With love I seek your soul to win,
My blood will cleanse your guilt of sin.

How shall I know Him?

The
Gospel Call
God is calling will your answer be
a simple song or a symphony?
Resounding notes from the organ peal
praise to God so rich and real.
the choir rings out in songs that rejoice
the heaven sent gift of a singing voice.
The group or solo we love so well
their songs of blessing do excel.
there are those called to teach
the hungry hearts we need to reach.
Precious is His living Word
then we know the truth is heard.
For Jesus warns us to beware
of Satan's' pitfalls that ensnare.
But what of those who do their work
unsung - unseen - yet never shirk?
Unseen by the world - but God will see
that they reap rewards in eternity.
What ever the task - big or small
hasten to answer the Gospel call.

A Bums Life
In my youth I longed to roam
so I packed my bag and left my home,
with only one thought a glorious time,
between me and starvation one thin dime.
So down to the yards to wait for a train,
the night was dark with a spatter of rain.
A restless wait -- we were ready to roll
so I climbed aboard way out west my goal.
With click and a clatter that's the song they
sing,
I'm on my way and felt like a king.
At the break of day clear and bright
the city behind me and also the night,
miles slip by with a clicking refrain
then a familiar feeling -- hunger pain.
We stopped at a spot I had never seen,
hey bud what's this? oh! Aberdeen.
A bowl of beans and I felt fine,
but it also cost that dime of mine.
Back to the yards and soon headed out,
the same old rattle but a different route.
It was late afternoon and rolling south,
not so cocksure and down in the mouth.
As night came on with nothing to eat,
thoughts of home were mighty sweet.
When we stopped I bummed some bread,
ruled by my stomach not by my head.
I went to a house at the edge of town
my knock was answered and he gave me a frown,
but he fetched a loaf and carving knife
then cut me a chunk from the staff of life.
I've had tastier food not always from need,
but that old chuck with my stomach agreed.
The days stretched into a week,
my food didn't stretch it left me weak.
When we hit Denver I made up my mind
I still loved life, but a different kind.
I hurried for home as fast as could be,
the life of a Hobo just wasn't for me.
Weakened from wandering I sat down to eat,
heaped my plate then repeat and repeat.
Remember this tale if yearn to roam,
experience teaches there's no place like home

A Miss

Into my life without a fuss
she sat beside me on the bus.
A pleasing smile - a face so fair,
a halo was her light blonde hair.
I looked again - her eyes were blue,
a brightly blended, perfect hue.
I looked askance at those blue eyes,
and wondered if she heard my sigh.
I'll speak to her - at least I ought,
yet my words remained a thought.
She left an impress fair of face
a fleeting notion to embrace -
but Time had caught me in his cage
for I was almost twice her age

Autumn
Over the landscape everywhere
nature is changing to winter wear.
Scarcely noticed in September
the scenery changes of November.
Under a sky touched with haze
splashes of color meet our gaze.
Here and there a tree is seen
stripped of summer's coat of green.
That limped pond serene and nice
awaits a crust of crystal ice.
Vanishing summer has done her best
shall now be laid away to rest.
The hazy hue of autumn gold
a wintry white will soon enfold.

Winter Evening at Lake Harriet
Suspended sun -- a ball of gold -
another day of growing old.
Silently the sun is sinking,

Silhouettes of naked trees
stirring in the evening breeze.
Cracklings from the ice below
blankets of white winter snow.
God knows how to comfort night,
turns on the moon the lesser light.
In majesty the night holds sway
till darkness softens into gray.
With waning moon and darkness gone
a bright new day arrives at dawn.

Dear Helen
You are mine just in memory
of days long ago,
I wish we could go back again
for I miss you so.
though we never talked of love
life was really grand,
and a special thrill for me
just to hold your hand.
I remember dates we had
sometimes just to walk,
when we thought of things to say
we would walk and talk.
Perhaps you thought I did not care
I know you could not see
the place you held within my heart
you were all in all to me.
Now you belong to someone else
you're another fellow's gal,
but my faint heart remembers --

That fair land is always seen

a picture of perfection to a certain boy
forever his thoughts, his constant joy.
Oh! that feeling it's really grand,
always and always he will understand.
But a boy in love is to blind to see
when her thoughts so quickly flee,
and she reveals to him that part
possessed by every girl - a heart.
Sudden fury sound and sight
if he dispute that precious right,
reserved by girls of every kind -

Fishing
in Fantasy
I'm going north tomorrow
to try my luck and line,
winter snows have vanished
spring shows a fresh design.
I've grown weary here at home
tried my patience by the wait,
knowing where the big ones are
that long to take my bait.
My gear is packed -- I'm ready
at the crack of dawn I go
to a little lake beyond the
hills
where the valiant fighters
grow.
But when I listen to the boys
tell of their biggest fetch,
it makes one wonder if these
fish
have a built--in, two--way
stretch.
It makes no difference what we
do
by plots and plans and
schemes,
the biggest and the best are
caught
in hibernation -- by
daydreams.

Not Guilty?
Where are we going in our mad haste?
Is life so cheap it's laid to waste?
Anxiety that bitter thorn
our heritage the day we're born.
But in birth youth has no choice,
by tradition they have no voice.
Emotions of youth are set on fire
bewildered by inflamed desire.
Disheartened youngsters caused to grieve
in search of truth -- find make-believe.
When boy and girl fall by the way
society is heard to say --
Who led them on this path of shame?
I'm glad that I -- was not to blame!

Portrait
of a Baby
In reveries recalling the sound of a sigh
I awake and await for a baby cry,
or ripples of laughter bubbling the air
ringlets of curls -- light flaxen hair,
eyes that shine with glistening dew
a soft-tinted glow of summer sky-blue,
your little nose --what should I say?
it's really cute -- you came that way.
Lips of pink so soft and sweet
pacified by a thumb just having a treat.
Such a bright pretty picture to recall
a package so precious, chubby and small,
lifting my heart like a sip of light wine
a blessing from heaven, a gift so divine.

Resonance
I've often thought--What should I say
about that girl across the way?
By chance we meet we say hello
I linger--but she turns--although
I always quicken when I greet
that certain girl across the street.

Song
of Minnesota
To the north below the border
lies a land beloved by all--
born to love this legend land
with the heart's inherent call.
Builded by men and women
from lands across the sea
with vision and hope eternal
a heritage for you and me.
They gave all, their very best,
through struggle and in strife,
to the victor and the vanquished
we owe our way of life.
From a lowly start they builded
the keystone of this nation,
today it stands the test of time
on a solid, firm foundation.
We will keep this hope alive
God's way of life in trust,
His standard held on high by faith,
we understand--it is a must.
From her cities, farms, and forests,
sending sons and daughters forth,
emblazoned on those banners
shines our Star of the North.

Spring
Beauty
Little girl and little boy
radiant in your life of joy,
walking through a flowery lane
filled with bloom by sun and rain,
beneath branches bending low
innocent faces all aglow,
hand in hand a perfect pair
in time remembered a moment rare.
This will forever be a part
abundant hope within your heart--
spring--her beautiful green unfurled,
you gaze in awe--God's wonder world.

The
Huntress
Men will mention time and again
that hunting is a game for men.
When women hunt men will stress
it's only for--togetherness.
With gentle words he'll make it clear
the first time out she'll get no deer.
--She's smiling at his scoffs and scorns
while gazing at her dear--deer horns.

Wise
or Otherwise?
Manly mind in search of life
met a heart inclined to strife.
Their meeting place was common ground
where manly mind took thought profound.
His expectations were to win
for this poor heart was feminine.
He tarried to decide his best.
She quickly started on her quest.
Soon his strength began to ebb
so subtly she wove her web.
His cry of woe when all was lost,
the mind forgot to count the cost.
He treats her now with due respect,
this glad--and wiser--intellect.

The Etching
The 19th of November in '73
lived a lad sad--but free.
At 6:15 she gave a ring
November now is always Spring
he had seen a certain girl
especially Jean.
She was there--he took one look
she never knew that look had took.
He will remember best off all
that November came the fall.
Upon his heart she etched her name
forever with a fragile flame.

You Alone
I dreamed of you last night my
dear,
a loveliness that seemed so
near.
Your misty smile oh so sweet,
yours alone-- so discrete.
We walk together hand in hand,
along a brook through
meadowland.
We talked of love and other
things,
precious words life took
wings.
always you are mine -- my very
own,
forever I'm a deamer I'll
never be alone.

Whistles
in the Night
Listen! -- can you hear the
call?
A mournful sound on ear will
fall,
across the prairie in load
refrain
down the valley -- then back
again.
Harken now -- what does it
say?
but soon it slowly fades away.
Rushing on in swiftest flight
a train is speeding through
the night.
In winters snow and summers
rains
I hear the call of whistling
trains.

The Cat
I have a little kitten with
shiny black fur,
wrapped in her tail and a
satisfied purr.
When she awakens from a cozy
nap
it's a sight to behold
watching her unwrap.
A seventh -- inning stretch,
an arching of the back,
then she licks her paws as
though it were a snack.
Really it's delightful, surely
she has shown,
she lives the life of Riley in
a world of her own.

Conquering
Chris
The night before Christmas
in the Langsea house,
a creature was stirring
but it wasn't a mouse.
Now this little creature
-- a well -- favored lad,
without a doubt was the cherub
of Mother and Dad.
Christmas tree tinsel --
bright lights everywhere,
this lad kept a moving
-- then stopped to stared.
For Grandma and Grandpa
a wonderful sight,
his aunts and uncles
watched him romp with delight.
The presents were opened
and all turned to see,
this young mister Chris
full of laughter and glee.
As time slipped away --
ere the night was half gone,
the beam of his brightness
was veiled by a yawn.
But Chris was a fighter
and used to this thing,
out of his storehouse
-- a resilient spring.
Then back to do battle
from pillar to post,
such a sight to behold
-- really -- the most.
He finshed the course
he fought a good fight,
for battling Chris
had conquered the night.

Miss
New York
I'm past the age to fit the
part,
-- boy meets girl and loses
heart.
Without a doubt you're from
the east,
for with one look my pulse
increased.
Your comeliness a pleasant
glow,
reluctantly I turned to go.
Time will tell how great the
cost,
for west has won what east has
lost.
Your destiny is best
expressed,
-- to captivate and win the
West.
